James Cook University

The University was established by an Act of the Queensland Parliament, the James Cook University of North Queensland Act 1970, which provided for "the establishment and incorporation of a University at Townsville, and for purposes connected therewith". It received assent on 20 April 1970. In 1997 the Department of Education proceeded with the remaking of Acts of Queensland universities. As a result, the James Cook University Act 1997 received assent from the Governor in Council on 29 August 1997 and was promulgated on 1 January 1998.
